On 1st October 1975, these islands ceased to exist as an official group.

From that time on the Micronesian people in the Gilberts (later named Kiribati) were separated from Polynesians living in the Ellis islands which became known as Tuvalu.

The first G&E stamps were overprinted Fijian ones and it is interesting that this set has relatively low price considering the low quantities produced.
