The total land area of this famous pacific nation is 460,000 square kilometres with a population of more than 3.5 million.

Mountainous peaks with active volcanoes are major features with the last major eruption being in 1951.

There is evidence that man lived there over 10,000 years ago but it has probably been longer. The isolation caused by the rugged terrain has resulted in over 800 different languages among the locals. Pidgin is widely used these days.
